"Using the vPos system to know the whereabouts of all the gliders flying from the site."
A Site Operator can use the vPos system to track the gliders that are operating from the Site. He can instantly know the position of the Gliders. The automatic monitoring of the gliders can also be used for administrative purposes (generating bills for usage of the gliders).
Services currently available:
- Setting up group of gliders (related to Site).
- Tracking of the gliders in near real-time with the SilentWings viewer.
- Display of the latest position received at the vPserver for all the gliders.
- Downloading of IGC files for the gliders (at any time, or at the end of the day).
Planned services:
Automatic generation of:
- list of gliders that is using the Site for take-off.
- e-mail or sms when a glider have landed.
- e-mail or sms when a glider lands outside the Site.
- A report of the activity on the field at the end of the day.
The availability of these services means that:
- The safety level for operating from the Site will be higher. The Glider Site Operator would at any time know the whereabouts of all the gliders (pilots).
- Manual logging of the movement of gliders are not longer needed.
- Therefore there will be no errors in the logging of towing or glider movements.
- With automatic logfiles the Glider Site Operator will be able to control the operations from the site more efficiently.
- The Glider Site Operator can be use the services as an aid in education. Onground tracking of pupils on X-country flights.

A glider competition organiser can now offer the public (friends, family and other glider pilots), the chance to watch the competion as it unfolds. This can be done from anywhere there is a broadband internet connection.
It is of particular interest to be able to follow the competition on the site of the competition. When having vPtrackers in the gliders, they can be followed by running the SilentWings viewer on a PC connected to a projector.
Services available
The following services are currently available for a Competition Organiser with a broadband internet connection:
- Tracking of the gliders in near real-time with the SilentWing viewer.
- Defining the competition (name, site, from-date, to-date).
- Uploading competition files (cuc files). This is nescessary for the SilentWings viewer to be able to display the pilots and the task.
- Display of the latest position received at the vPserver for all the gliders.
- Downloading of IGC files for the gliders (at any time, or at the end of the day).
- Transfer of Performance Results, and Map View from the PC running the SilentWings viewer, to a web-browser.
Performance results
In the SilentWings viewer the performance results for the competition can be displayed. You can see a larger version of the picture by clicking on it. For the Grand Prix, a special view was used, where the gliders altitude are shown in a chart, relative to their position. You can see an example by clicking here.

Your current web browser must be updated to version 7 of Internet Explorer (IE7) to take advantage of all of template's capabilities.
Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser.
The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
Get free downloads for Internet Explorer 7, including recommended updates as they become available. To download Internet Explorer 7 in the language of your choice, please visit the Internet Explorer 7 worldwide page.
