2005

The server and web-aplications required to handle the tracking data was developed further to a level where it could be closesly integrated with the SilentWings Viewer. A redesign of the vPtracker was also initiated since it was decided to use a new GPRS-module with even better performance. Because of this redesign of the vPtracker, the production of commercial units had to be delayed until 2006.

The vPos system was used in the following events in 2005.

  • Elverum Open (Elverum, Norway, May)
  • Norwegian Championship (Elverum, Norway, June).
  • Viking Glide (Eskilstuna, Sweden, June).
  • CMVVM - French Nationals Club Class, and pre-world championship Club Class. (Vinon, France, June).
  • The 1st FAI World Sailplane Grand Prix (St. Auban, France, September).

Testing of the vPos system has been done at the following places:

  • Vågå, Norway (March)
  • Italy (April)
  • St. Auban, France (June)
  • Zweibrucken, Germany (October)
  • Bern-Belp, Switzerland (December – ongoing

In the first three competitions, we tried out newly developed software in the vPserver, vPtracker and SilentWings Viewer. As such, it gave vPos staff valuable information.

During the two competitions in France, the system was used to give the spectators preliminary scoring, and for the Sailplane Grand Prix about 100 persons were watching the competition on a large screen in the hangar. During the last week-end there were as many as 500 spectators following the competition by watching the vPos Glider Competition Tracking and Display System (vPcompetititon).

Quote from e-mail from Roland Stuck (the competiton director of the Grand Prix) after the event:

"The vPos system was crucial in ensuring the success of the 1st Sailplane Grand Prix."

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
